The team behind Ghanaian rapper Kweku Smoke has expressed deep frustration over his absence from the Artiste of the Year category for the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, insisting no nominee on the list worked harder than their artiste in the year under review.
Digital Marketer and Head PR of Kweku Smoke's Revival Concert, Derrick Annor Boadi, made the remarks on GhanaWeb's TGMA Countdown show hosted by Isaac Dadzie and Joseph Henry Mensah, describing the snub as deeply disappointing.
"When we saw the nominations, we felt, 'How come he is not Artiste of the Year?' When you look at the people on that list, I don't think any of them worked as hard as he did," Boadi said.
He pointed to the success of Kweku Smoke's Revival Concert as an indicator of the rapper's impact.
“Look at his Revival Concert, it was not free. It was on a weekday. Yet it was one of the biggest live concerts of the year,” he said.

He also highlighted the rapper's dominance on the rap charts, describing him as the owner of both the biggest and second biggest rap songs of the year.
Boadi further cited Kweku Smoke's international activities as additional evidence of his qualification for the top prize.
"He is going on tours, he is performing around the world, and you are telling me he doesn't qualify to be in the Artiste of the Year because he is not doing azonto songs," he said.
Boadi further revealed that the team had submitted nominations across every eligible category they could identify, making the board's final list all the more baffling to them.
"It is very disappointing to see the TGMA board come out with the list and you see certain names out there and you are like, aah.
“It is nice to be recognised for what you do. It is very important to be called an award-winning artiste. If you look at the Artiste of the Year list, there's not a single name there you can mention who you can say worked harder than Kweku Smoke," he stated.
