Kuami Eugene backed Medikal for the TGMAs
Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has thrown his weight behind Medikal in the race for Artiste of the Year at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, arguing that the rapper's massive public following gives him the edge in what he described as a tight contest.
Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM on May 7, 2026, Kuami Eugene acknowledged that both Medikal and Wendy Shay had delivered the biggest songs of the year under review, singling out Medikal's 'Shoulder' and Wendy Shay's 'Too Late' as the standout records of 2025.
However, he gave the nod to Medikal, citing the numbers of the rapper's fanbase as the deciding factor.
"I think Medikal might win because besides the fact that he's a good musician, he has the masses behind him. Wendy Shay has the masses as well, but the ambience of Medikal, the masses, it's bigger. So, if he gets a successful year, it reflects in his work," he said.

Kuami Eugene also noted that the final outcome would ultimately rest with voters, urging the public to weigh the impact of both artistes and decide accordingly.
Medikal is nominated alongside Black Sherif, Wendy Shay, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton in the Artiste of the Year category at the TGMA27 ceremony scheduled for May 9, 2026.
