Multiple award winner, Black Sherif
Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has won the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, marking his first-ever victory in that category.
The award becomes one of Black Sherif’s major wins of the night and also signals a new chapter in Ghanaian songwriting, as he takes over from longtime fan-favourite Kofi Kinaata, who has dominated the category for years with his lyrical depth and storytelling abilities.
With the win, Black Sherif also cements his place among Ghana’s elite lyricists, becoming one of the youngest artistes to claim the coveted songwriting honour.

Black Sherif earned the award with his song Sacrifice, beating out strong competition from some of the industry’s finest writers.
The nominees in the Songwriter of the Year category included the likes of Kofi Kinaata with Have Mercy II, Cofi Boham with Take Me Home, Ko-Jo Cue with Abebrese, Akwaboah with Obi Nnim, and Stonebwoy with Send Them A Prayer.
Netizens have since celebrated the win, with many describing it as a well-deserved moment for the “Iron Boy” hitmaker, whose music has consistently resonated with the youth through raw storytelling, pain-filled lyrics and relatable themes.
