For over two decades, the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) has remained the biggest and most prestigious platform for honouring musical excellence in Ghana.

Among all its categories, none carries more weight, debate, and prestige than the coveted Artiste of the Year award.

Over the years, several musicians have come close to winning the top honour multiple times, but only four acts in the history of the awards scheme have successfully reclaimed the crown more than once.

That elite list currently includes Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, VVIP, and Black Sherif.

Sarkodie

Sarkodie became the first artiste to achieve the milestone after winning the award in 2010 and reclaiming it again in 2012.

His victories marked a major moment for Ghanaian hip-hop, as he established himself as one of the most dominant rappers on the continent.

VVIP

Before Sarkodie’s second feat, music group VVIP, formerly known as VIP, had already written their name into the history books with wins in 2004 and 2011.

They became one of the few groups to dominate an award category often associated with solo acts.

Stonebwoy

Nearly a decade after his first Artiste of the Year win in 2015, Stonebwoy also joined the exclusive club when he reclaimed the title in 2024.

His second victory was widely viewed as a testament to his consistency, longevity, and influence within Ghana’s music scene.

Black Sherif

The latest artiste to enter this category is Black Sherif, who secured his second Artiste of the Year title at the 2026 TGMA after previously winning it in 2023, three years prior.

With the achievement, Black Sherif also became the youngest artiste in the history of the awards scheme to win the topmost title twice before the age of 25.
