Second-time Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year winner, Black Sherif, has opened up about the creative process behind some of the songs on his ‘Iron Boy’ album.

He has revealed which tracks were the most difficult and easiest for him to make.

Speaking in a recent interview on 3FM, the “Kwaku The Traveller” hitmaker disclosed that the song Changes was the most challenging track he worked on throughout the album-making process.

According to him, it took him three days just to lay the vocals for the song, making it the toughest record he had to complete on the project.

“Changes. It took three days to take the vocals; I think it was the register. I was hearing how it was supposed to sound, and I didn’t want to do just anything. No song has ever taken three days,” he shared during the interview, adding that the emotional depth and creative demands of the song made it particularly difficult for him.

Black Sherif further explained that, on average, it usually takes him about 12 hours, including breaks, to fully write and record a song.

However, the process for some songs on the album differed greatly.

He contrasted “Changes” with another song on the album, “Sacrifice”, which he described as one of the easiest tracks to create.

“The average time to create a song is about 12 hours; earlier, we can hit the studio, and in three hours, we are done, but now it's 12 hours because we’ll go on break and come back to continue,” he elaborated.

The award-winning musician revealed that it took him less than an hour to write Sacrifice, while the entire recording process lasted about three hours.

“I wrote sacrifice under an hour; I was in Lagos. I came back to Ghana and retook the whole vocals again, and that was that,” he said.

Despite the quick turnaround for Sacrifice, Black Sherif maintained that “Changes” remains the song that demanded the most from him on the Iron Boy album.
