Kofi Owusu Peprah is a Ghanaian gospel musician
Ghanaian gospel musician Kofi Owusu Peprah has disclosed that he was genuinely surprised to emerge as the winner of the Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026.
Kofi Owusu Peprah won the award with his hit song ‘Big God’, which has become one of the most popular gospel songs in Ghana and a crowd favourite at his performances.
Speaking in an interview via Zoom on Joy Prime on May 12, 2026, the gospel artiste admitted that he did not expect to win because of the strong competition in the category.
“Sincerely, I didn’t think I would win considering the people in that category,” he said.
The singer noted that he wanted to remain truthful about his feelings rather than pretend he had been confident all along.
“I don’t like it when you want to change the story after things happen for you, so I want to be as real as possible,” he shared.

Kofi Owusu Peprah praised his fellow nominees, describing them as deserving winners in their own right.
“I want to celebrate all of them; they are all worthy winners. Having to be mentioned made me a little surprised,” he stated.
He, however, acknowledged that Big God had gained significant popularity and resonated strongly with audiences.
“My song Big God, we all know, has earned it. Whenever I stand on stage to perform, people would be anticipating Big God,” he said.
According to the artiste, he believed he was also deserving of the award and credited his fans for voting massively.
“I believe I’m also a worthy winner. People saw the good works and they voted. People actually assured me that they’re voting, but I kept my expectations in control,” he added.
