Coming from the renowned Duncan Williams family, widely associated with pastoral work in Ghana, Sista Afia, has revealed that it never really crossed her family’s mind that she would pursue secular music.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the singer explained that her relatives are God-fearing and were all raised in the church. Because of this strong religious foundation, her family expected her to follow a gospel path rather than venture into secular music.

“My family loves God. We were all brought up in the church, so they didn’t expect I would be a secular artiste. They expected me to be more of a gospel artiste,” she said.

Now active in the secular space, she was asked whether renowned preacher Bishop Duncan Williams had ever called her regarding any of her songs, and she clarified that she has never received such a call.

She added that everyone in the family is focused on their own paths, pointing out that her cousin Daniel, popularly known as Deewills, son of Bishop Duncan Williams, is also doing his own thing as a rapper, so her situation is no different.

“No, everybody is doing their thing. Daniel is doing his stuff, then how much more me? I have never hidden it that I’m part of the Duncan Williams family. I just don’t like to talk about it that much,” she added.
