Apostle Safo Kantanka is a late Ghanaian agriculturalist, and innovator
Fresh controversy has erupted within the family of the late Apostle Professor Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka after his daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, announced the final burial arrangements.
Adwoa Safo, revealed at a press conference that the burial and funeral rites would take place on July 30, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.
She added that a funeral service would follow on July 31, 2026, at Independence Square in Accra, with a thanksgiving service scheduled for August 8, 2026, in Kumasi.
However, the announcement has been met with resistance from some family members, including Apostle Safo’s son, Akofena.
Late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka's funeral and burial dates announced
Shortly after his sister’s statement, Akofena posted a funeral flyer on Instagram indicating June 25, 2026, as the date for their father’s funeral.
The dispute deepened when Dr. Philip Kissi Siaw, co-chairman of the funeral committee, alleged in an interview with Gossips24 Avenue that the family had not been consulted about the new dates.
He further claimed that relatives are unaware of where Apostle Safo’s body is being kept, despite his wishes that it should not remain in a morgue for long or undergo an autopsy.
“When Apostle Safo Kantanka was alive, he stated that if he passed away, he should not be kept in a morgue for an extended period, and that no autopsy should be conducted on his body. However, after his death, Adwoa Safo was the one who arranged for his body to be placed in a morgue. To this day, we do not know where the body is being kept.
"When we asked her, she told us that President Mahama had provided a place in a mortuary for the body to be kept. Can you imagine that Adwoa Safo does not even go there to check on the body?" he alleged.
He also accused Adwoa Safo of being estranged from her father during his final years, claiming she had not spoken to him for three years and had even retrieved gifts she had previously given him.
Controversy emerges over access to late Apostle Safo Kantanka's body
"She was not on speaking terms with her father for the past three years. Even when Ghanaians were criticising her for travelling abroad, her father sent a chief to speak to her. Can you imagine that she allegedly threw away the phone when she heard her father's voice?
"Even the birthday gifts she gave her father were taken back. So why would she insist on controlling matters after his passing? I have never seen a situation where a child leads a press conference on funeral arrangements while the extended family is still present and actively involved," he alleged.
