Sarkodie finally addresses his viral 'back to gari soakings' tweet

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has finally explained a post he made on social media back in 2025 which many interpreted to be a jab after President John Mahama was elected president.

Earlier in January 2025, Sarkodie posted “Back to gari soakings like never before,” a post that sparked fury online, with scores of netizens threatening to even cancel him at that time.

Although he did not provide a context or direct the post to any specific individual, party supporters speculated that it was a comment at Mahama’s re-election.

Fast-forward to a year and half later, Sarkodie, in an interview with UK-based media personality Adesope Olajide, explained that his post was taken out of context.

He said this while likening the situation to a recent post by Stonebwoy about fake friendship between a certain two individuals, which many have speculated was a jab at him and Shatta Wale.

In Sarkodie’s submission, he noted that he had simply ordered for gari and decided to make a post about it, yet many people took it out of context and lambasted him for it.

“He put out a tweet, maybe people are linking it to the timing of what we did. I've been there several times. There was a time I literally sent one of my boys to get me gari and sugar and milk, and people thought I was talking about the president.

"I never came out to debunk it but if they knew what it was about they wouldn't react that way. I was literally in the kitchen," he said.

"I don't want to play that game where my brother says something, and everyone assumes they know exactly what he means,” Sarkodie said.
