Entertainment media personality Ola Michael has thrown his weight behind President John Dramani Mahama's decision not to sponsor Ghanaian supporters to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, saying the president has done nothing wrong.
President Mahama had earlier cited a per-person cost of approximately $11,000, covering travel, accommodation, feeding and match tickets, as the reason the government could not sponsor mass travel to the tournament.
Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Ola Michael argued that the decision makes practical sense given the Black Stars' current form and dwindling morale.
"The president did not say anything bad. The team itself is not performing, so there is no point in that," he said.

The media personality noted that the president's reaction would have been entirely different had Ghana been performing strongly on the world stage.
"If the team were doing well and we were winning international tournaments like the Commonwealth Games, the World Cup or the Under-17 World Cup, we would have taken everybody," he said.
Ola Michael also disclosed that he personally considered attending the tournament but ultimately talked himself out of it.
"I even wanted to go, but when I looked at the team, I didn't feel confident in them. So why should I waste money to travel all the way there and support them?" he said.
He described the team's morale as having been on a steady decline since Ghana's famous 2010 World Cup run, adding that the situation has now reached a critical low.
He also noted that the government had indicated it would procure match tickets for Ghanaians already living in the host cities.
