The Nigerian entertainment industry gathered in their numbers on Wednesday for the service of songs for late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
The popular actor died on May 11, 2026, after a battle with kidney cancer.
In accordance with the funeral arrangements released by the Ekubo family, colleagues, friends, and dignitaries trooped into The Monarch Event Centre, clothed strictly in white attire.
Videos from the event, currently circulating on social media, reveal that heavyweights in the movie, music, and lifestyle sectors were in attendance to honour the late actor.
Popular actresses, including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, and Nkechi Blessing, were among those spotted at the event.
Celebrity couple Stan Nze and Blessing Obasi, actor Frederick Leonard, media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Nigerian singer Chike Osebukam, and popular socialite Cubana Chief Priest also attended the service of songs in their white outfits.
The spiritual atmosphere of the evening was anchored by worship sessions led by gospel ministers Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Mercy Chinwo, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings, with Pastor Jerry Eze also ministering at the event.
The Ekubo family had previously released an obituary statement via the late actor’s official Instagram page, urging his fan base and the general public to keep the immediate family in their thoughts and prayers.
Wednesday’s service of songs marked the official commencement of Ekubo’s burial rites.
According to the official itinerary, the funeral train will now move to the late actor’s home state of Abia State, where a wake-keep has been scheduled for June 17 before Alexx Ekubo is finally laid to rest on June 18.
