Health practitioner with the Ghana Health Service’s Institutional Care Division, Dr Andrew Baha, has weighed in on the long-standing debate about how long a man should last during intimacy.

Speaking in an interview on JoyPrime monitored by GhanaWeb on June 11, 2026, Dr Andrew Baha stated that there is nothing unusual about a man lasting less than seven minutes during intercourse.

According to him, scientific studies indicate that the average duration of penetrative intercourse for men falls within a range of three to seven minutes.

“...Not necessarily, and it depends on a lot of factors. One of the common questions people ask is, ‘How long should a man last?’

"It may interest you to know that it is not what most people think. Scientifically, and based on available evidence, the average duration is between three and seven minutes,” he said.

Dr Baha further noted that lasting longer does not automatically translate into better sexual satisfaction.

He explained that sexual satisfaction, particularly for women, involves several factors beyond duration alone.

“If a man continues for much longer than expected, there can be several issues associated with that.

"Also, it can be difficult to satisfy a woman sexually because the way women are stimulated and become aroused is quite different from men. For women, it is usually a combination of many factors,” he added.
