Ghanaian musician Worlasi has opened up about the brutal financial struggles facing artistes in Ghana, saying the life of a local musician is far harder than most people appreciate.

Speaking in an interview with renowned broadcaster Kafui Dey, Worlasi when asked how hard it was to be a musician in Ghana, stated, "Bro, e hard pass. Just like ginger, it's hard pass. If you don't chop, you go sick and die. Because if you're sick and you go to hospital, can you pay? Registration alone is GH¢550.

"It's hard. I'm saying it like it's funny, but it's hard," he admitted.

Worlasi reveals why music alone could make him broke

According to Worlasi, what keeps him and others like him, from walking away, is the music itself and the connections it creates.

"The music is what makes it fun. The people are what make it fun. Travelling is what makes it fun. You know people who don't even understand your language but are connected to your music. These are the things that are saving us," he said.

The artiste has been open about the realities many Ghanaians creatives face and has been calling for stronger policies to ensure they earn the proper royalties for their works.
