‘Only Christians stay in bad marriages until death’ - Rev Obofour

Reverend Kwaku Agyei Antwi, popularly known as Obofour, has shared his views on why some marriages do not last, attributing it partly to excessive external influence from churches and religious leaders.

In a video shared online on June 15, 2026, Rev Obofour stated that many marriages heavily influenced by churches and pastors often struggle to survive.

According to him, marriages that tend to last longer in recent times are those kept private and shielded from excessive church involvement and public attention on social media.

“Many marriages influenced by the church have broken down, including those involving pastors’ children. Those who kept their marriages private and did not actively involve the church or social media are still intact. Even 90 per cent of them are still together,” he said.

Rev Obofour further argued that Christians are more likely to remain in unhappy marriages for long periods.

According to him, he would not hesitate to advise couples in unhealthy relationships to separate if the marriage becomes harmful, adding that many people ignore warning signs.

“Do you know that Christians are the only people who can stay in bad marriages until death? If you come to me for counselling, I will tell you to leave a toxic marriage because it can destroy your life.

“My father did the same to my mother, and from my experience, I believe that if a man starts engaging in infidelity, he may not stop until serious consequences arise,” he added.
