Gospel ministry is not about wealth – Eugene Zuta

Ghanaian gospel musician Eugene Zuta has urged Christians to stop measuring the success of gospel ministers by their material possessions, stressing that ministry is about serving God rather than accumulating wealth.

Speaking on No. 1 FM's Journey to Heaven show with host Taller Dee, Zuta recounted an experience that changed his perspective on public expectations of gospel musicians.

According to him, he was once seated and overheard people speaking positively about him. He said they were expressing appreciation for his work in ministry and offering prayers for God's blessings upon his life.

The gospel artiste also shared an encounter in a commercial vehicle when a female passenger recognised him. After confirming that he was indeed the musician Eugene Zuta, the woman appeared surprised that he used public transport.

Zuta admitted that such moments can make a person feel slightly uncomfortable because many people expect gospel musicians to live a particular lifestyle. However, he emphasised that being used by God has nothing to do with one's financial status.

He explained that gospel ministry should not be viewed as a profession for acquiring wealth, adding that a minister of God can live an ordinary life and still fulfil God's purpose effectively.

The singer further noted that society often places unnecessary pressure on gospel artistes to maintain a certain standard of living, which can create the impression that money and luxury are requirements for successful ministry.

He maintained that such expectations are misplaced, insisting that God's calling is not dependent on material possessions. Zuta added that he enjoys living a simple life and has no problem crossing the street to buy porridge and take it home for his family, describing such moments as part of who he is.
