Veteran broadcaster and General Manager of Sompa FM, Akosua Ago Aboagye, has recounted the shock of learning she was expecting triplets at a time when she was building her media career and pursuing a university degree.

Speaking at the second edition of Convergence of Mothers organised by media personality MzGee, Ago Aboagye described the moment as one of the most confusing periods of her life.

At the time, she had recently entered marriage, was working as a broadcast journalist and programme host at Hello FM in Kumasi and was also studying at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

A routine hospital visit soon changed everything.

"The doctor said, 'Congratulations. You have triplets," she recalled.

The news left her overwhelmed.

"I didn't know what to say because it was a shock," she said.

Ago Aboagye admitted that she experienced mixed emotions, describing herself as unsure whether to feel happy, sad or even depressed by the unexpected development.

When she eventually delivered, she gave birth to two girls and a boy. Tragically, one of the girls did not survive, leaving her with twins to care for.

The challenges intensified after childbirth.

As a first-time mother, she found herself navigating sleepless nights, breastfeeding two babies simultaneously and preparing to return to work after maternity leave.

Looking back, she said she had little understanding of what motherhood would demand of her physically and emotionally.

"I didn't know what I was up against," she admitted.

The experience eventually introduced her to postpartum depression and the emotional struggles many new mothers face after childbirth.

Balancing newborn twins, academic commitments and a broadcasting career proved difficult, but she persevered through the challenges with support from family and colleagues.
