Gospel artiste Grace Ashly has disclosed what she goes through whenever the Black Stars of Ghana qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the gospel singer, who has composed several songs over the years to rally support for the national team during major tournaments, said the moment the Black Stars secure qualification often comes with people asking her for financial help.

According to her, many people assume she benefits financially from her association with the Black Stars and therefore turn to her for monetary assistance, treating that period as her “cocoa season.”

“Anytime the Black Stars qualify for the World Cup, that is when people often ask me for financial help. I’m a celebrity and people depend on me. Around that time, people come asking for money, thinking I have cashed out,” she said.

Grace Ashly disclosed in 2018, she was never paid for any of her campaign songs for the Black Stars, adding that the only recognition she received from the Ghana Football Association was commendation for her efforts at the time.

The gospel musician, who was once a major force in Ghana’s gospel music scene, explained that her decision to produce songs for the national team has always been driven by patriotism and love for the country rather than financial gain.

“I was not scared about the Anas exposé because since 2006 till now, Kwesi Nyantakyi never paid me a coin for any of the songs I produced for the national team. I am daring the former GFA boss to deny or confirm my claims.

“The GFA did not pay me a penny. I always gave him my songs, he will play the songs but he will not pay me. He will only commend my efforts but never gave me a pesewa,” Grace Ashley told Rainbow FM at the time.
