Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has opened up about what he describes as the most difficult moment of his life: the painful loss of his only daughter.

Speaking in a conversation with Ghanaian gospel musician Piesie Esther, the veteran actor revealed that he had three children, two sons and a daughter, but sadly lost his daughter just nine days before her 21st birthday.

“I had three children, two boys and one girl. But unfortunately, the God who gives and also takes away, has taken my daughter away. She passed away just 9 days to her 21st birthday,” he said

Visibly emotional, Fred Amugi revealed that his daughter was diagnosed with cancer, and her battle with the disease became one of the most difficult periods for the family. He recounted spending countless days and nights by her hospital bedside, only taking short breaks to rest whenever she fell asleep.

“She was diagnosed with cancer, and we spent almost everyday in the hospital. Sometimes we stay in the hospital for a whole week. I could only take short naps on a chair in the conner when she slept,” he added

The actor also disclosed that while he was granted time off to take care of his daughter, his wife was unable to be by her side because her employer refused to grant her leave.

“Luckily I was granted some time to care for her as soon as I asked, but my wife’s employer wouldn’t allow her,” he reveled

Amugi further revealed that he was pursuing a course at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and was only two days away from completing the programme when he received a distressing call while on campus, asking him to rush to the 37 Military Hospital.

However, upon arriving at the hospital, he was met with the devastating reality that it was not his daughter who had been brought there for treatment, but her lifeless body.

Describing the moment as the darkest period of his life, Fred Amugi said the grief was so overwhelming that he was unable to shed tears after seeing his daughter’s body.

“When I got to 37 it wasn’t my daughter, but her body. That was the worst moment, I couldn’t even cry then,” he said amid tears

The veteran actor’s emotional account has touched many Ghanaians, with many expressing sympathy and admiration for his strength in dealing with such a painful loss.
