Cornelius Annor makes his first solo exhibition in Germany

Ghanaian contemporary artist Cornelius Annor has opened a significant new chapter in his international career with the launch of Everywhere and Now Here, his first-ever solo exhibition in Germany and his second exhibition in Europe.

The exhibition, hosted by Galerie Huebner and Huebner in Frankfurt, marks an important milestone for the Accra-born artist whose work has steadily gained international recognition over the past decade.

While Annor's paintings have been exhibited in major art centers including Accra, London, New York and other global destinations, this exhibition represents his debut solo presentation in Germany, further strengthening his growing presence on the European art scene.

For Annor, the exhibition is more than a showcase of paintings. It is a deeply personal exploration of memory, identity, family, and belonging.

Titled Everywhere and Now Here, the exhibition presents ten new works that draw inspiration from family photographs, personal histories, and images shared across generations within the Black Diaspora. Through these references, Annor creates intimate visual narratives that connect past and present, individual memory and collective experience.

Born in Accra in 1990, Annor has become known for his distinctive approach to portraiture and figurative painting. His works often depict moments of tenderness, family life, friendship, and community within domestic spaces.

Using acrylic paint, textile transfers, collage techniques, and traditional African fabrics, he constructs layered compositions that feel both familiar and timeless.

A defining feature of Annor's work is his use of Ghanaian textiles. Rather than serving as decorative elements alone, the fabrics become carriers of memory and cultural meaning.

As patterns move across surfaces through transfer processes, they gradually fade and transform, mirroring the way memories evolve. What remains are traces, fragments, and emotional connections that continue to shape identity.

One of the exhibition's standout works, Okunu Pa ("Good Husband"), demonstrates this approach beautifully. Named after the textile pattern featured in the painting, the work portrays a father holding his child in a quiet moment of affection, transforming an everyday family scene into a meditation on care, inheritance, and human connection.

Annor's artistic language is rooted in personal history. Drawing heavily from family albums and photography, he often revisits moments that seem distant, forgotten, or incomplete. Through paint and fabric, these memories are reconstructed and reimagined, creating a bridge between generations.

His growing international reputation is reflected in the institutions that now collect his work. Today, Annor's paintings are held in notable collections including the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Norton Museum of Art in Florida, the Bunker Artspace in West Palm Beach, and Espacio Tacuari in Buenos Aires.

Beyond his own artistic practice, Annor remains committed to supporting emerging talent in Ghana through C. Annor Studio, a creative space dedicated to mentoring and encouraging young artists.

As visitors experience Everywhere and Now Here, they are invited to reflect on their own relationships with family, migration, memory, heritage, and place. The exhibition reminds us that while time changes people and places, the emotional traces of where we come from never fully disappear.

With this first solo exhibition in Germany and second exhibition in Europe, Cornelius Annor continues to establish himself as one of the most compelling contemporary voices emerging from Africa today.
