Gospel musician Grace Ashly has stated that she was saddened by dismissal of former Black Stars coach Otto Addo.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she said she would have preferred a situation where additional technical support was provided rather than a complete change in leadership.

“I was at Stuttgart when the issue happened, and I felt so sad, honestly. Even if they would sack him that should have happened after our match with Austria, not Germany. And I was expecting that if there should have been something which I don’t know, they should have called Coach Addo and told him they wanted to add someone to him so that the two of them can handle the team. In my opinion that is how it was supposed to be,” she said.

She added that although she was not in favour of the decision, she understands that the authorities may have acted based on what they believed was best for the national team.

“I wasn’t happy anyway, yet it happens,” she said.

Earlier in 2025, the gospel musician who has composed several campaign songs for the Black Stars called on football authorities not to relieve Otto Addo of his duties. She insisted at the time that he needed backing and technical reinforcement instead of being shown the exit.

Otto Addo was dismissed after a run of poor results, including losses to Austria and Germany in international friendlies.

Following his exit, the Ghana Football Association appointed Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to take over the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nonetheless, Grace Ashly said she is hopeful the Black Stars will go beyond the group stage and make a stronger impact at the tournament.
