Ghanaian musician Keche Andrew has reacted to the recent flooding that has affected several parts of Accra, using humor to draw attention to what he believes is one of the major causes of the problem.

In a video shared on his TikTok page, Keche Andrew jokingly said he intends to head to the police station to find out whether ordinary citizens could be issued licenses to act as community enforcers against indiscriminate littering.

“I want to go to the police stations and ask if they can give a license to beat someone, because at this point we all have to be self police to stop the flood,” he said

According to him, if such a license is possible, anyone caught dumping refuse into drains, gutters, or flowing water would be apprehended and beaten to serve as a deterrent to others.

“When you see anyone dump refuse in gutters, in cars, or into water bodies, we catch them and beat them up. Afterwards, you take them to the police station, that’s what we need to do,” he said

The musician argued that the recurring floods are not caused solely by heavy rainfall but also by human behavior.

He criticized the habit of people carelessly disposing of waste in public spaces, especially those who deliberately throw rubbish into drains and waterways, causing them to become blocked.

Keche Andrew also condemned the practice of some residents waiting until it starts raining before emptying household refuse into the rushing water, believing the rain will carry the waste away.

He noted that such actions contribute significantly to choked gutters and worsening floods across the capital.

“Our attitudes are part of the recent floods; we dump refuse anywhere,” he added

Although his remarks were made humorously, the video has sparked conversations online about personal responsibility, proper waste disposal, and the need for collective action to help reduce flooding in Accra.
