Citizens must do more to help end Ghana's flooding, Joselyn Dumas says
Ghanaian actress and media personality Joselyn Dumas has called on Ghanaians to take greater responsibility in helping prevent and respond to the country’s recurring flooding, stressing that solving the problem requires a collective effort between citizens and government.
She made the comments after the devastating June 29, 2026, downpour that left several parts of the Greater Accra Region submerged, disrupted transportation, destroyed property, and affected thousands of residents and businesses.
Reacting to the disaster in a social media post on June 30, 2026, the actress acknowledged that while the government has a responsibility to provide relief and improve infrastructure, citizens also have an equally important role to play in addressing the causes of flooding.
“Well, the government will do its best to help in this situation. But we, the citizens, have much more to do than the government. I hope we know that?” she wrote.

Joselyn Dumas argued that national progress cannot be achieved through government intervention alone, insisting that meaningful change depends on a shared commitment from both authorities and the public.
According to her, attitudes and everyday actions must align with government policies and investments if the country is to overcome its persistent flooding challenges.
“We all have a part to play, government and citizens alike. When the mindset of the people isn’t aligned, the infrastructure will be redundant. Progress happens when government and citizens pull in the same direction,” she stated.
Beyond calling for collective action, the actress also extended her sympathies to individuals, families, and businesses affected by the disaster.
“My heart goes out to all affected people, communities, and businesses that have suffered the ripple effect of this downpour,” she wrote.
The June 29 torrential rains triggered severe flooding across several communities in the Greater Accra Region, leaving major roads impassable, damaging homes and businesses, and disrupting economic activities.
Emergency responders and government agencies have since been working to rescue stranded residents, assess the extent of the damage, and provide relief to affected communities.
