Sarkodie laments Ghanaian's killing, says South Africa has disappointed him
Rapper Sarkodie has expressed anger and disappointment over the killing of a Ghanaian national in South Africa during anti-immigrant demonstrations, describing the situation as “insane.”
Reacting to the incident on his X page on July 1, 2026, Sarkodie said although South Africa remains one of his favourite places in the world, he is deeply disappointed in the country.
He stressed that while he understands not everyone there is involved in the violence, he is disturbed by the ongoing barbaric attacks.
He also called on South Africans to take a stronger public stand against the rising xenophobic incidents.
“Disappointed in one of my favorite places in the world, SA. I know not everyone out there is involved in this, but this is insane and makes no sense! I wish my South African brothers and sisters would speak up against this more strongly because it’s getting out of hand. God help our African brothers and sisters out there,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has also condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless act of violence and calling for those responsible to be arrested and prosecuted.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the government said it received “profound shock and sadness” following the fatal shooting of Bashiru Isak, a 40-year-old Ghanaian, in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Monday, June 30, 2026.
According to the statement, Isak was killed during demonstrations linked to ongoing xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa.
The ministry further disclosed that the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, acting on instructions from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has formally lodged Ghana’s protest with South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
It also confirmed that an official complaint has been filed with the South African Police Service after the identity of the deceased was verified and his family notified.
