Ghanaian actress and social activist Efia Odo has warned that Ghana's recurring flooding crisis poses a serious long-term threat to the country's economy, not just through the loss of lives and property.

In a post on her X handle on Friday, July 3, 2026, Efia Odo argued that persistent flooding could discourage both local and foreign investment, eventually stalling economic growth.

"The floods don't just destroy homes, they could damage Ghana's economy for years. Investors considering building factories or expanding businesses may think twice if they see recurring floods, damaged infrastructure, and poor planning," she wrote.

She warned that reduced investor confidence would have a ripple effect on the broader economy.

"Fewer investments mean fewer jobs, slower economic growth, and more spending on rebuilding. That can lead to even more debt," she added.

Efia Odo stressed that tackling the country's flooding challenges should be treated as an economic priority, not just a humanitarian one.

"Preventing floods isn't just about saving lives, it's about protecting Ghana's economic future," she said.

She ended her post with a plea for her message to be taken seriously by those in a position to act. "Hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears," she wrote.

Her comments add to growing public commentary from Ghanaian celebrities and activists following recent flooding in Accra and other parts of the country, with many calling for lasting infrastructural solutions rather than temporary interventions after each disaster.
