During an interview with Billboard that was published on Wednesday, American band the Backstreet Boys revealed that Canadian rapper Drake previously told them he had his first kiss when one of their songs was playing.
Members of the award-winning band include Nick Carter, Howie D, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson. The group touched on the topic when they were reflecting on the moments their children realized their fathers were actually famous.
“For my kids, probably the coolest thing that ever happened is when we were on the DNA Tour,” Richardson disclosed.
Richardson also stated that during the tour, they made a stop in Toronto, which is Drake’s hometown.
He said they “went to a restaurant, and it just happened to be Drake’s” go-to eatery. He continued: “The maître d’ is like, ‘Excuse me, Drake is here, and he would love — when you’re finished — he would love to be able to come over and say hi.”
Richardson said the Certified Lover Boy rapper “told a story about, like, his first kiss was to one of our songs,” adding that their conversation resulted in Drake helping them perform I Want It That Way when he joined them on stage at their Toronto concert.
“He was like, ‘Could I come through?’” Richardson recalled.
Drake addressed the audience at the concert, and he explained why that song meant so much to him.
“At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah — for the first time in my life — this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her,” Drake was captured in a video saying at the time, PEOPLE reported.
Drake added: “It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like, you know, I had a shot at being cool.”
“If she can see me now, you know what I’m talking about?” he concluded on a lighter note.
