Veteran Highlife musician JA Adofo has asserted that Ghanaian musicians are going through difficult times.

He has therefore appealed to the authorities to help improve their welfare.

Speaking in an interview on Experience in Life with Nayas show, the veteran musician said while he believes his time is almost up, he hopes the current generation of musicians will experience better conditions.

According to him, entertainers in neighbouring African countries such as Nigeria and the Ivory Coast are treated far better than their counterparts in Ghana.

Citing Nigerian comic duo Aki and Pawpaw as an example, he said they are financially comfortable and well supported by their industry, describing the situation in Ghana as disheartening.

'I never wanted my son to do music because of juju' - JA Adofo

“Musicians in Ghana are going through difficult times. Some of us are nearing the end of our lives, but I plead that things are addressed for the current generation of musicians. If you go to Nigeria or Ivory Coast, that’s not how their entertainers suffer. Just look at Aki and Pawpaw, the wealth they have and the way their industry takes care of them. When you compare that to Ghana, it’s very disheartening,” he said.

Speaking about his personal life, JA Adofo disclosed that he owns a house in Accra, where he currently lives, as well as another house in his hometown.

He further noted that many musicians aspire to own cars during the peak of their careers. He revealed that he once owned about seven cars, but they have all become damaged over time, leaving him with just one.

“At the peak of my career, I bought about seven cars, but they are all damaged now. The last car I was using was a BMW, but my doctor advised me to stop driving for certain reasons, so I’ve parked it. These days, it’s my son who drives me around,” he added.
