'Our wedding trended because of false age claims' – Blessing Obasi recalls

Nigerian actress Blessing Obasi Nze has opened up about the online backlash that followed her marriage to Stan Nze, revealing that false claims about their ages dominated social media shortly after they tied the knot.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Dear Ife Series, Blessing mentioned that she and her husband found the rumours amusing and refused to let public opinions affect their relationship.

According to her, the speculation began after her husband, Stan Nze announced their wedding on social media.

"The narrative came on my wedding day. We didn't announce anything until my husband posted at 12 midnight and captioned it, 'A king and a queen.' Some people were saying it was a movie that we were about to release. At that time, we were done with our traditional marriage, but people didn't know," she said.

Blessing explained that she only became aware of the rumours after someone informed her about what was circulating online.

"The wedding was just my people and I. That's when someone told me that they'd seen what was going on on the internet. The blogs were saying I was 43 years old and married to a 33-year-old man. I was surprised, but we laughed about it. It continued trending all through that week. Everyone had a narrative," she recalled.

The actress noted that she and her husband had already overcome several challenges together before marriage, making it easier to ignore the criticism.

"We found it funny because my husband and I have faced things even in the relationship, so we were both enough for each other. It didn't really matter what anyone was saying because it doesn't define me. I've grown to understand that people will always talk," she stated.

Blessing also disclosed that she was repeatedly mocked over her teeth, with trolls urging her to stop smiling in public.

"I was also dragged because of my teeth. Trolls told me to stop laughing publicly because of my dentition. Now, I've gotten it fixed, so they should continue," she shared.

She stressed that the strength of her friendship with her husband has been the foundation of their marriage, adding that they remain focused on each other despite public scrutiny.

"My husband and I were very good friends, so it's always been us. From the onset, we just knew that it's us against the world as long as God was in this. Once you're in the limelight, people will talk, so let's focus on being great," Blessing Obasi added.
