A veteran singer begged me for GH¢20 to buy medicine after years of fame – Francis Amo

Gospel musician Francis Amo has urged artistes to prioritise financial management after recounting a heartbreaking encounter with a once-prominent Ghanaian musician who, according to him, struggled to afford medicine.

Speaking in an interview on UCook with Empress Gifty on July 12, 2026, Francis Amo mentioned that the incident has since been a wake-up call on the importance of securing one's future in the entertainment industry.

According to him, the changing dynamics of the music business require artistes and their management teams to make deliberate efforts to plan for life beyond fame.

"Now, where it has reached, artistes' management has to talk to their artistes. We've created a lot of relationships in such a way that some of the artistes are not comfortable and it will endanger our future. Some of the artistes who were in the industry before us made mistakes and when you think about it, you will feel some type of way," he said.

Francis Amo recalled that while working in a recording studio last year, he was informed that someone wanted to see him.

To his surprise, he said, the visitor was one of Ghana's celebrated singers, who had fallen on hard times and pleaded with him for money to purchase medication.

"Just last year, I was in the studio and I was told that someone was looking for me. To my surprise, it was one of the greatest singers in Ghana here. He begged me for GH¢20 to buy medicine. He was all drunk and looking so bad. I gave him the money, but I really learnt a lesson from what he was doing," he recounted.

The gospel musician stated that the encounter reinforced his belief that entertainers must be intentional about saving and investing while they are still active.

"I realized that as we're growing, we are supposed to protect our future. Now that a lot of things have changed and social media has taken over, we have to put things in place,” he shared.

Francis Amo added, "All the musicians should try and do things right to secure our future. When you get money, try and save some. That's what keeps me going.”
