Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has set social media ablaze with a brief but loaded post that has divided opinion and sparked a wave of reactions from followers and commentators alike.

In the post made on his X handle on July 14, 2026, Sarkodie shared, "If you want people to leave you alone, stay broke."

The post, which quickly racked up reactions, was interpreted in different ways by different users, with some reading it as a warning about the social consequences of success, and others taking it as a dig at those who choose comfort over ambition.

Several users agreed with the sentiment, with one writing, "Deep, because once you start making the bread, people are going to talk," while another added, "If you are broke, even you will leave yourself alone."

Others pushed back, questioning the logic of staying broke simply to avoid attention. "Out of all the things you can choose to be in this world, why choose to be broke?" one user fired, while another simply asked, "But do you want to stay broke? That's the question.

"Some users injected humour into the conversation, with one writing, "Nobody even knows that the current President and Ibrahim Mahama are my uncles. They buy food for me for free all the time, but I still pretend. They think they are favouring me, meanwhile it is them I am playing."
