Ghanaian Highlife singer, Akwaboah
Ghanaian Highlife singer Akwaboah has set social media ablaze after advising Ghanaians to save what many would describe as an outrageous amount every month before walking down the aisle, a post that many users found out of touch with economic realities on the ground.
In a post on X on July 15, 2026, Akwaboah posted, "Learn to save 8,000 cedis from your salary every month. Save before you marry. I go come explain soon."
The post led to reactions on X, with many users pointing out that for most Ghanaians, GH¢8,000 is not a savings target but a fantasy.

"How much is the salary self? And come to think of saving GH¢8,000 from it, you have to start explaining things," one wrote.
"Don't let me say my mind to you. Did you really mean the three zeros at the back of the 8? How much does H.E President Mahama save at the end of the month sef? Come again," another added.
Others went further, questioning whether Akwaboah's marriage advice was due to something personal.
"Akwaboah, since you marry, nor be small advice you don dey give man. You shun dey love music come dey advice. By now you suppose to release a song titled 'Jezebel,'" wrote one user.
"He is definitely telling the public that his wife is money palogo. Some people have been in marriage for 20 years and I haven't heard them give such counsel — but just 2 or 3 years and my man has turned into a marriage counsellor. Love music is far far far different from real love," another observed.
However, some agreed with the savings principle but took issue with the amount.
"Marry within your budget, not above your budget. It's simple," one said.
Meanwhile, Akwaboah promised to explain his advice soon.
