‘Your songs were more than music’ - Stonebwoy mourns late reggae icon Fantan Mojah

Afro-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has paid an emotional tribute to Jamaican reggae artiste Fantan Mojah following news of his death, describing him as a cultural icon whose music inspired generations across the world.

In a post shared on X, Stonebwoy looked back on Fantan Mojah’s visit to Ghana for the 2025 Bhim Festival, stating that it was a privilege to welcome the reggae legend to the Motherland and celebrate his remarkable contribution to music and culture.

Referencing Fantan Mojah’s iconic song Macka Tree, Stonebwoy said the late musician stood for culture, truth, and conscious music, adding that his influence would continue to live on despite his passing.

“It was an honour to welcome you to the Motherland and to celebrate your legacy at @BHIMFESTIVAL 25. You stood tall like the Macka Tree – rooted in culture, unshaken in truth, and sheltering generations with your sound. Rest well, Jah Warrior.

“Though you’ve returned to the ancestors, your voice still echoes in every chant, every prayer, every revolution your music sparked. Your songs were more than music – they were medicine, they were fire, they were faith. You uplifted my spirit, and you continue to uplift millions worldwide. FANTAN MOJAH Forever in our hearts,” Stonebwoy wrote.

The celebrated Jamaican reggae artiste died at the age of 49, just weeks before his 50th birthday.

Fantan Mojah, born Owen Moncrieffe, died on July 14, 2026, at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston after suffering heart-related complications.
