Gospel singer Selina Boateng has opened up about the collapse of her marriage, saying she believes she got married before the right time.

Speaking in an interview on Max TV on July 16, 2026, the gospel musician reflected on her failed marriage, which she announced in 2025 that it had ended, saying timing played a major role.

“It wasn’t the right time for me to get married,” she said.

Selina Boateng married Isaac Berchie on December 7, 2019, in a ceremony held at the Church of Pentecost (Magazine) Maakro Central in Kumasi. Six years later, she announced that the marriage had ended.

Addressing suggestions that she may have been forced into marriage, she dismissed the claim, insisting that no one can force another person to marry.

She explained that she has come to believe that God’s timing is crucial, and that things would have worked out differently if the timing had been right.

“Nobody can force someone to get married. If you didn’t know the person, you wouldn’t have married them. So no one can force anybody. I just realised it wasn’t the right time. God works according to His timing, and when the time is right, everything falls into place. It becomes smooth and works perfectly,” she said.

In an earlier interview on Okay FM in 2025, Selina Boateng cautioned young people against rushing into marriage because of societal pressure.

She urged them to take their time to evaluate themselves and their partners before making a lifelong commitment, explaining that many people hide their true character before marriage and that some attitudes cannot be changed.

She also noted that those who pressure others to get married are sometimes struggling in unhappy marriages themselves.

According to her, such individuals often conceal their own marital challenges, present their marriages as perfect, and encourage others to rush into wedlock.
