Shatta Wale is in Nigeria on tour
Ghanaian dancehall king, Shatta Wale' has made a dramatic entrance into Lagos, arriving in a convoy of two Rolls-Royce vehicles and quickly making headlines on Nigerian social media for his flamboyant arrival and generous display.
The musician, who was captured on video pulling up in style from the airport, was later seen attempting to speak Yoruba to his Nigerian hosts, declaring "I am here, I have arrived" a gesture that drew warm reactions from some quarters.
He subsequently visited the set of popular Nigerian podcast The Honest Bunch, where he sat for an interview and reportedly gifted the hosts the sum of 3 million naira.
The visit sparked a wave of reactions from Nigerians on X, with opinions divided between admiration for the showmanship and scepticism about the lavish display.
"Two Rolls-Royces just for a visit? Eish, that's showmanship. But is it for the music or the flex?" one user wrote, while another questioned whether the cars had even been brought from Ghana or sourced locally, asking "He bought the Rolls-Royce here in Naija before coming? Abi he rent am?"
Others were less impressed, with one Nigerian pointing out that the cars barely raised eyebrows in a country where flashy vehicles are commonplace. "He's showing us cars even our upcoming artistes all have?" one user noted.
Some Nigerians extended a warm welcome nonetheless, with one writing "Welcome to our beloved country, enjoy your stay," while another jokingly declared "Shatta is more Nigerian than Ghanaian, welcome to Nigeria, the home of Afrobeat."
The visit carries significance given its timing. Shatta Wale had previously courted controversy in 2021 by publicly criticising Nigerians for not supporting Ghanaian music, a stance that escalated into a feud with former friend and Afrobeats heavyweight Burna Boy.
His Lagos trip has therefore been interpreted by many as a calculated move to reconnect with the Nigerian market.
