Veteran Kumawood actor Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi dies after kidney failure battle

Veteran Kumawood actor and filmmaker, Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi, has reportedly passed away after a prolonged battle with kidney failure.

Kumasi-based Akoma FM was among the first to report the sad news on Saturday, July 18, 2026, sending shockwaves through Ghana's film community and triggering an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues.

Obuobi's health struggles had become widely known in recent months after fellow industry players rallied to support him financially during his treatment.

Kumawood star Kojo Nkansah LilWin donated GH¢10,000 towards his medical expenses, while veteran actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu made a GH¢50,000 donation to help fund the kidney transplant he needed.

Despite the generous outpouring of support from colleagues and well-wishers, the actor sadly could not make it.
