Veteran Ghanaian dancehall artiste Sugar Ranking stormed off the set of a live television interview following a tense exchange with broadcaster Roman Fada over comments he made about Shatta Wale.

In a video shared by Atinka TV on social media, Sugar Ranking claimed that Shatta Wale does not show him the respect he deserves as an elder in the dancehall fraternity.

“Shatta doesn’t respect me. He’s younger than I am. He wants to be an alpha male, but if he’s an alpha male, naturally, I am also older than him, so I can say he doesn’t respect me,” he said.

As Roman Fada sought clarification on what he meant by Shatta Wale’s alleged disrespect, the interview took an unexpected turn.

Sugar Ranking accused the broadcaster of deliberately trying to lure him into making controversial remarks about Shatta Wale because of his alleged association with the artiste.

“I can see you’re setting me up today, but I know you support Shatta Wale. Before I came here, I did my research on you, so I know you do campaigns for Shaxi. That is why you’re pushing me to say something,” he alleged.

Roman Fada denied being a supporter of the SM boss, insisting that he had never met Shatta Wale personally.

He explained that his public support for Shaxi was solely because he considered it a positive initiative and not because of any personal relationship with the musician.

“I am a professional broadcaster. I don’t support Shatta Wale; I have never met him. But he’s doing something good, so I spoke about it. I am simply saying don’t say things about him when he’s not here to defend himself,” Roman Fada responded.

Sugar Ranking maintained that he had recently become the target of attempts to create tension between himself and Ghana’s two biggest dancehall artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

According to him, some social media users have falsely accused him of accepting money from Shatta Wale to attack Stonebwoy and the Bhim Nation camp.

“What I am saying is someone came on live and said Shatta Wale has paid me to go on TV and destroy Bhim Nation. For what? I only said Shatta doesn’t respect me because dancehall is a culture, and I am older. So when he sees me, he must call me father, but he doesn’t. That’s why I say he doesn’t respect me,” he explained.

Roman Fada, however, insisted that Sugar Ranking should retract his statement, stressing that he would not allow his platform to be used to make allegations against someone who was not present to respond.

“If you have a personal problem with him, then it’s better you leave here and go solve it with him,” the broadcaster said.

Moments after the remark, Sugar Ranking stood up and walked out of the studio, abruptly bringing the interview to an end.
