I will defeat Sammy Awuku in 2028 Akuapem North parliamentary election - KK Fosu

Ghanaian highlife musician, KK Fosu, has declared his intention to defeat the incumbent Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, in the 2028 parliamentary election.

In an interview on Asempa FM on July 18, 2026, the Highlife musician, who had expressed his intention to contest the seat in the 2024 elections, explained that he was unable to do so because of an earlier fatal accident he was involved in with his colleague Bless on the Apam–Winneba Road sometime in 2024.

KK Fosu said he will contest the seat as an independent candidate and challenged Sammy Awuku to also leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and contest as an independent candidate if he is confident he can win.

He added that even if Sammy Awuku contests under the NPP banner, he would still defeat him, claiming that the party has lost its relevance.

“I will contest for the seat. I did not contest in 2024 because of my accident. When Sammi Awuku heard I wanted to contest, he also joined the contest. If he wants, he should leave the NPP and also contest as an independent candidate; I will beat him. Even the NPP is dead, so I can beat him,” he said.

Reacting to the comments in a social media post, Sammy Awuku jokingly urged KK Fosu to produce a campaign song for him before picking up nomination forms to contest the seat.

“KK Fosu m’aya da! Please get me a campaign track before you pick nomination forms. Nice weekend Bro,” he wrote.

Kaakyire Kwame Fosu, known in showbiz as KK Fosu, first announced his intention to contest the Akuapem North parliamentary seat in 2020.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, KK Fosu stated that the time was right for him to give back to the youth of Akuapem by empowering and inspiring them to achieve greater heights.

“The youth of Akuapem North want me to contest for the seat, and I have decided to contest come 2020 and hopefully, I can impact the youth by empowering them,” he said.
