Ghanaian media personality Blakofe has defended content creator IShowSpeed following his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Closing Ceremony, saying she admires his approach and the way he has built his platform.

IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., became the first digital content creator to perform live at a FIFA World Cup Final Closing Ceremony when he took the stage at the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) ahead of the final between Spain and Argentina.

Reacting to discussions about the performance, Blakofe acknowledged that the show may not have appealed to everyone but said Speed’s journey represents a young person pursuing his goals.

“It wasn’t the best song or performance. But, Speed is doing his own thing. And I admire him for that,” she said.

According to Blakofe, the content creator’s brand does not promote what she described as harmful lifestyles, but instead reflects his personality and ambition.

“He’s not doing anything to hurt anyone. He’s not promoting bling bling, promiscuity, or the fake lifestyle.

“He’s just a young man in shorts and a T-shirt, exploring his opportunities as he navigates this world of ours,” she added.

She said Speed’s rise should encourage young people to remain determined in pursuing their dreams.

“Speed should teach young people to be unstoppable. Go for their dreams.

“God knows when I was younger, I was unstoppable. I really pursued my dreams and went for everything I wanted,” Blakofe said.
