DKB reacts as Akufo-Addo's defence of Akonta Mining resurfaces

Popular Ghanaian comedian and NDC sympathiser, DKB, has weighed in on the resurfaced video of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo defending Akonta Mining following the conviction and sentencing of the company's owner, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The video, which has gone viral on social media in the wake of Wontumi's 20-year prison sentence with hard labour over the Samreboi illegal mining case, shows Akufo-Addo rejecting claims in 2023 that Akonta Mining was engaged in illegal mining activities.

Reacting after the clip resurfaced, DKB shared the video on social media with the caption, "So who is lying now?"

BREAKING: Chairman Wontumi jailed 20 years in prison

At the time, the former president assured Ghanaians that the company was not involved in galamsey anywhere in the country.

"Before I take my seat, let me respond briefly to the chairperson on the issue of illegal mining. I want to assure him and all of you that Akonta Mining is not engaged in any illegal mining anywhere in Ghana as we speak," he said.

Fast-forward three years to July 20, 2026, and the High Court in Accra found Chairman Wontumi and Akonta Mining guilty on all six counts before handing Wontumi a 20-year prison sentence with hard labour on July 20, 2026.
