The late Ebo Taylor will be buried on August 1, 2026
Ghana will bid farewell to one of its greatest musical icons, Ebo Taylor, with funeral and burial rites scheduled to take place in Saltpond in the Central Region in honour of the legendary guitarist, composer, bandleader and producer.
The Taylor family, led by Nsona Ebusuapanyin Nana Asobo II, Obaahemaa Nana Saakoa, Obaapanyin Baaba Koufie and the entire Nsona Ebusua of McCarthy Hill, Cape Coast, together with the Eguana Ebusua No. 3 of Saltpond and the wider Ebo Taylor family, announced the funeral of the music legend with profound sadness.
Ebo Taylor, who passed away at the age of 90, was celebrated as one of Ghana’s most influential musicians whose creativity helped shape the sound of Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeat over a career spanning more than six decades.
The final funeral rites will begin with a private lying-in-state on July 31, 2026 in Saltpond, followed by the burial service on August 1, 2026, at the Wesley Methodist Church, Saltpond.
The final rites and thanksgiving service will take place on 2nd August 2026 at Victoria Park.

Born Deroy Taylor on January 6, 1936, in Cape Coast, in Ghana’s Central Region, Ebo Taylor grew up surrounded by a rich cultural environment where music played an important role in community life.
His passion for music began at an early age. At six years old, he started learning the piano, developing a deep understanding of melody and harmony that would later define his career as a guitarist, songwriter, arranger and producer.
His albums, including “Love and Death” (2010), “Appia Kwa Bridge” (2012), and “Yen Ara” (2018), introduced his artistry to a new generation of listeners worldwide.
