Perez Musik (L) has lauded Shatta Wale (R) for for his innovative use of AI in music
Award-winning gospel musician Perez Musik has lauded dancehall artiste Shatta Wale for his innovative use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music production, describing the African King album as a perfect example of how the technology should be used.
Speaking in an interview, Perez Musik said AI has become an important creative tool for musicians but should never replace originality or an artiste's identity.
Using Shatta Wale's latest project as an example, he said the dancehall musician struck the right balance between technology and creativity.

"The way he incorporated AI was beautiful. He's smart. His personality is still in it. He uses it where it's necessary," he said.
Perez Musik explained that while he also relies on AI to create demos, refine melodies, and organise ideas before entering the studio, he believes the technology should serve as an assistant rather than the main creator.
"AI is helping. It's technology. It's a tool. We can't demonise it. You must learn how to use it," he said.
He, however, expressed concern that some artistes have become overly dependent on AI, allowing it to produce entire songs and projects instead of using it to enhance their creativity.
