‘Only God can save him now’ – Agradaa speaks on Wontumi’s conviction and jail sentence

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has called on the family of embattled New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to visit her church for spiritual cleansing following his conviction.

Speaking in a TikTok video, Agradaa said once the law has taken its course, only God can intervene.

“His wife should come and meet my husband and me so we can perform some cleansing rituals. The law is the law, and once it has taken its course, the rest is left in God’s hands,” she said.

She also likened a prison sentence to losing a loved one, saying Wontumi now needs prayers and God’s mercy.

“When someone is sentenced to prison, it is almost the same as losing that person. As for Chairman, we will continue to pray for him and trust that God will show him mercy,” she added.

Chairman Wontumi was found guilty and convicted by the Accra High Court on illegal mining-related charges.

In a judgment delivered on Monday, July 20, 2026, the court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment.

The court found Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining Limited, guilty on four counts, including the assignment of mineral rights without the approval of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and facilitating an unlicensed mining operation.

Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay held that the prosecution had proven its case that Wontumi and Akonta Mining allowed Henry Okoom and Michael Gyedu Ayisi to conduct mining activities on the company’s concession without first obtaining the required ministerial approval.

The court concluded that by doing so, they facilitated illegal mining on the concession, leading to their conviction.
