Ofori Amponsah has documents to prove ownership of 'Odo Nwom' - Manager

Nana Poku Ashis, manager of legendary Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah, has stated that his artiste has confirmed to him that he is the rightful owner of the hit classic “Odo Nwom,” which is currently at the centre of a copyright dispute.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb on July 23, 2026, Ashis noted that when Ofori Amponsah and Kofi Nti recorded and released the song in 2004, he was not yet managing his artiste and therefore cannot provide full details about the issue.

However, Ashis explained that Ofori Amponsah had told him he has documents which, at the appropriate time, he would present to prove that the song belongs to him, as he is the one who receives royalties from it.

Ashis further noted that Ofori Amponsah is not interested in engaging in any public dispute over the ownership of the song.

He added that if Kofi Nti believes he is the rightful owner, he should pursue the matter through legal channels, a process Ofori Amponsah is prepared for.

“I wasn’t around when the two of them recorded the song. They were friends or brothers at that time. I wasn’t there, so I can’t give full details, but pertaining to what Ofori Amponsah had told me, he said he has documents which, at the right time, he would prove to show that the song belongs to him because he is the one who takes royalties from the song.

“So, if Kofi Nti says the song is his, then he just has to take legal action. Ofori doesn’t want to engage in any public brouhaha; he is ready for court. If the guy says the song is for him, make he just show documents say this thing is his,” Ashis noted.

His comments come after King Pee, former manager of Highlife musician Kofi Nti and Chief Executive Officer of Central Multimedia, insisted that “Odo Nwom” belongs to Kofi Nti and not Ofori Amponsah.

According to King Pee, Ofori Amponsah only featured on the original song and therefore has no authority to remix it without Kofi Nti’s approval.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV, King Pee claimed that Kofi Nti was unaware that a remix of the song was in the works until teasers of the collaboration appeared on social media.

King Pee maintained that the planned remix amounts to copyright infringement, arguing that all parties associated with the project, including Stonebwoy and KiDi, could face legal action.
