'55 songs, no hits' - Fameye recounts story behind hit song 'Praise'

Ghanaian musician Fameye has revealed that his hit song 'Praise' was inspired by his life story after years of struggling to break through in the music industry.

Speaking on 3FM, the award-winning artiste disclosed that before releasing the song, he had put out about 55 songs, but none had become a major hit.

According to Fameye, the disappointment made him realise he had become too focused on chasing hit records instead of staying true to his purpose as a musician.

"This song was based on a true-life story. At that time, I had released about 55 songs, none of them became a hit. Then I realised I had lost myself. I was looking for hit songs too much. But that shouldn't be the story," he said.

Fameye explained that he decided to shift his focus from commercial success to telling authentic stories that reflected his experiences.

"Where I was coming from was not just about the hot song. There is a message that needs to be out there. I was talking about my life story. It didn't have to be a hit. So I wrote this song," he added.

Highlighting the message behind the song, the singer quoted one of its lyrics, "If you listen to people, you won't move forward in life."

He said the line reflects the importance of believing in oneself despite criticism and setbacks.

Released in 2021, 'Praise' became one of Fameye's breakthrough songs, earning widespread acclaim and helping establish him as one of Ghana's leading contemporary musicians.
