Akosua Brempomaa, the sister of late Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has explained why the musician’s traditional one-year anniversary cannot be observed, insisting that key customary and legal matters remain unresolved.

Speaking in a video circulating on social media, Akosua Brempomaa stated that the family still does not know where he was buried, making it impossible to perform the necessary traditional rites.

According to her, since Charles came from a royal Ashanti family, tradition requires that libation be poured at his burial site before his one-year commemoration can be observed.

“As far as Ashanti culture is concerned, Charles was from a royal home. His one-year anniversary is almost here, but we still don’t know where he was buried and where to pour libation. If the one year is up and we haven’t poured libation at where he was buried, then we have no right to commemorate his one-year anniversary,” she said.

She further claimed that another important royal custom, which she described as “walling” for royals, has also not been performed.

“Because he was a royal, he was supposed to be walled, but that hasn’t happened either. We can’t be driven by greed to rush and celebrate his anniversary,” she added.

Akosua Brempomaa also disclosed that the family has taken the matter to court, seeking answers regarding the location of Daddy Lumba’s burial and accountability for the finances related to his funeral.

“We have given the matter to the court. It is in court that we want to know where Charles is buried and also where the calculations are. People were put in charge of overseeing the funeral preparations, so they need to come and account for how everything went. That matter is also in court,” she stated.

She also argued that the family cannot proceed with any anniversary observance because a successor to continue Daddy Lumba’s legacy has not yet been chosen.

“Moreover, a successor has not been chosen, someone who will succeed him and continue his work, so how do we celebrate his anniversary?” she questioned.

Expressing frustration over the ongoing dispute, she alleged that some individuals had sought to take control of matters surrounding the late musician despite opposition from the family.

“I don’t know what some people think: that you can just come from your house and because you met Fausty and me as women, you think you’re strong and rich and can take everything away from us. If that is the law, we leave it to God. We are women, that’s true, but our elders are in support of us. The family head is there, and he has done his part,” she said.

Akosua Brempomaa concluded that the family’s only wish is to know where Daddy Lumba was laid to rest.

“Because the matter is in court, we can’t say much. All we are praying to God for is to know where Charles is buried. That is all we want,” she said.
