'I'm living on extra time' - Richard Mofe-Damijo opens up on ageing, marriage

Veteran Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has reflected on ageing, family, marriage and purpose, revealing that he sees every day as a blessing after outliving his parents.

In an interview on “The Morayo Show” shared on X on July 27, 2026, the renowned actor noted that turning 60 carries a special meaning for him because neither of his parents reached that age, describing his life today as one of gratitude rather than fear.

“I'm living on extra time right now. My parents didn't make 60. My life is one of gratitude. I'm happy to be alive. I'm happy to be a Nigerian at this moment,” he said.

The veteran actor added that while he prioritises healthy eating and exercise, his biggest secret to staying youthful is refusing to embrace old age mentally.

“The only way for an old person to stay young is to never let the old person in. So I do not in any way let the old person in... My first child is 43. Till today, he still looks at me when I dress up... I'm not giving up now. There's no way I'm going to give up.”

RMD also offered a glimpse into his marriage, describing himself as an "incurable romantic" while joking about his love for fashion.

“My wife calls my wardrobe without shame. I probably have more clothes than she does. I love to dress for the occasion.

“I'm an incurable romantic. These days, it's never about flowers and chocolates anymore. Ladies like money now. The first time I had the biggest check I've ever had in my life... I said, give it to my wife,” he said.

Beyond his personal life, the award-winning actor credited his longevity in the industry to finding work he genuinely enjoys, saying passion is key to success.

“I don't consider what I do work. When you find the work of your hands, God just blesses it.”

“The most important thing is finding that thing that you were put here to do. The minute you align with everything that was divinely spoken about you, then life becomes easy. But most of us are out of alignment,” he said, adding that many people struggle in life because they have not discovered their true purpose.
