Ajagurajah declares Odo Broni 'victorious' in Daddy Lumba spouse dispute

In the ongoing dispute within the family of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba over who should be recognised as his rightful spouse, spiritual leader Bishop Kwabena Asiamah, popularly known as Ajagurajah, has declared that Priscilla Ofori, widely known as Odo Broni, has emerged victorious.

Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Ajagurajah stated that Odo Broni’s performance of the late musician’s widowhood rites is proof that she is recognised as Daddy Lumba’s wife.

He explained that, under Akan tradition, a woman who is only considered a girlfriend or the mother of a man’s child cannot perform widowhood rites.

Ajagurajah argued that anyone who performed such rites without being a recognised spouse could face spiritual consequences, particularly when traditional rituals, including the pouring of libation, were involved.

“Odo Broni has won. Whatever you people do, she has won. It is because of Odo Broni that you are trying to tarnish my image, but I don’t care. We have all seen who performed the widowhood rites for Daddy Lumba. In Akan tradition, a woman who is merely a girlfriend or even a baby mama cannot perform widowhood rites. If such a person does it, even when libation is poured, the curses will be upon that person’s head,” he said.

He also alleged that some individuals had attempted to tarnish his image because of his support for Odo Broni.

However, he maintained that he has been unfazed by the criticism, insisting that recent developments had vindicated his position.

Ajagurajah also reacted to the family’s recent disclosure of Daddy Lumba’s final resting place.

The spiritual leader said he had initially doubted reports that Daddy Lumba had been buried at his East Legon home.

However, following the public revelation of the tomb, he said there is now no doubt about the location of the late singer’s final resting place.

“At long last, I have seen where Lumba was buried. At some point, I doubted whether what they were saying was true, but now we have all seen where his tomb is,” he noted.

The disagreement over Daddy Lumba’s surviving spouses began after the musician’s death, with Akosua Serwaa filing a lawsuit seeking to be declared the late singer’s sole surviving spouse.

In her application, Akosua Serwaa sought exclusive recognition as Daddy Lumba’s widow and argued that she should be the only person entitled to perform the traditional widowhood rites.

She also sought to prevent Priscilla Ofori from being recognised as one of the musician’s surviving spouses.

Akosua Serwaa maintained that she married Daddy Lumba under customary law in 1991 before the couple later formalised their marriage in Germany in 2004.

However, the family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, supported plans to allow Odo Broni to participate in the traditional rites. Odo Broni had lived with Daddy Lumba for several years, had children with him and was publicly recognised as his wife.

In November 2025, the court dismissed Akosua Serwaa’s application to be recognised as Daddy Lumba’s sole surviving spouse.

The court held that her 1991 customary marriage to the musician had not been formally dissolved and noted that customary law permits a man to have more than one wife.

The court recognised both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori as surviving spouses of the late musician, ruling that Odo Broni also qualified as a valid customary wife.

Meanwhile, Daddy Lumba’s family marked the first anniversary of his death with an emotional private gathering at his East Legon residence on July 26, 2026.

The commemoration brought together family members, close associates and loved ones who gathered to honour the life and enduring legacy of one of Ghana’s most celebrated musical icons.

Among those present were members of the late musician’s family, including his sister, Faustina Fosu, as well as Odo Broni.
