'My father's funeral will happen as scheduled' – Sarah Adwoa Safo

Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared that the funeral of her late father will proceed as scheduled despite ongoing disagreements within the family.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on July 28, 2026, Adwoa Safo disclosed that the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies have been informed to provide security throughout the funeral activities.

According to her, all invited dignitaries have been assured that the funeral will take place as planned.

"My father's funeral will come on live and coloured. I'm reminding Akofena and his boys that the deal that was given to them means they're under a bond to be of good behaviour. If he misbehaves, the law will take its course," she said.

She continued, "We've informed the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to give us protection as we're burying our father. All the dignitaries I invited called to ask if the funeral will hold, and I've confirmed to all of them that it will happen, so they will all be there."

Adwoa Safo insisted that no individual or group would be allowed to disrupt the funeral arrangements.

"It's not him and the other people he has following him that can stop this. Our father lived a good life and achieved a lot. They think they would fight me for me to change my mind or not involve myself in my father's burial," she stated.

The former MP shared that she was determined to give her late father what she described as a befitting burial, adding that any unresolved family issues could be addressed after the funeral.

"The point our father has gotten to in life, I'm willing to give him a befitting burial. When I'm done with mine, whatever they are to do, they can go ahead because I don't have any problem with them," she remarked.

Adwoa Safo further revealed that, apart from her brother Kwoadwo Akofena, her other siblings support the funeral arrangements. "Aside from Kwoadwo Akofena, the rest of my siblings are all solidly behind me," she noted.

She announced that the burial service would be held on Thursday, while the final funeral rites are scheduled for July 31, 2026, at the Independence Square.

"The burial service will be happening on Thursday and the funeral will be on July 31, 2026, at the Independence Square. Our father is tired; he's been lying for a long time, and he needs to be buried. We can't wait any longer just because of one person who wouldn't agree to our date of burial," she added.
