Obaapa Christy says people should avoid judging situations they have never experienced
Ghanaian gospel musician Obaapa Christy has weighed in on the mind shift of some individuals towards makeup, saying those who once criticised the practice are now actively indulging in it.
In an interview on Okay FM on July 28, 2026, the singer explained that people should avoid judging situations they have not personally experienced because their views may change when they eventually find themselves in those circumstances.
According to Obaapa Christy, criticisms against women who use makeup have reduced because some of the individuals who once opposed it are now using it themselves.
“Those who used to criticise it are now doing it themselves. You shouldn’t judge a place or situation you have never experienced because when you get there, you may understand why certain things are done that way. Many people condemned it before because they didn’t fully understand it, but now that they are in the same position, how can they continue to criticise it,” she noted.

In similar instances, marriage counsellor and preacher Charlotte Adu Poku openly preached against the use of cosmetics, describing makeup as “instruments of demons” and “pigments of perdition.”
Through her sermons, she urged women to avoid facial adornments, arguing that such practices affected their natural and divine appearance.
She maintained a simple appearance for years, often keeping her hair natural or wearing short haircuts, while avoiding wigs, extensions, artificial nails and makeup.
However, after the end of her marriage to Apostle Solomon Oduro, Charlotte Adu Poku has been seen embracing a different style, including wearing wigs, braids and applying makeup, which contrasts with the views she previously expressed.
