Kumawood actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu has paid tribute to the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, describing him as a father figure and mentor whose guidance played a huge role in shaping her career in the Ghanaian movie industry.
Speaking in an interview with Adom FM on July 30, 2026, during the final funeral rites of the late spiritual leader at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, Mercy Asiedu reflected on the lessons she gained from him, particularly his encouragement to overcome fear, build confidence and believe in her abilities.
The actress recalled how Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka supported her and other young talents during rehearsals for performances at the National Theatre.
She said the late apostle constantly motivated them to develop a positive mindset and approach challenges with confidence.
According to Mercy Asiedu, one of the greatest lessons she took from Apostle Safo Kantanka was the importance of having a “can-do spirit” and trusting that God would provide support when one remains committed to achieving their goals.

She explained that the late apostle often challenged her whenever she felt uncertain about herself, encouraging her to push beyond her limitations and become a better performer.
“I remember a time when he was preparing us for a performance at the National Theatre. During rehearsals, I was a bit shy, and he told me not to let anything intimidate me in life, no matter what I was doing. He always said, ‘Believe that you can do it.’ He encouraged us to have a can-do spirit, saying that when you are determined and put your trust in God, He will help you achieve whatever you set your mind to,” she said.
Mercy Asiedu further described Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka as someone who played a fatherly role in her life, especially at a time when she was young and uncertain about her future in acting.
The actress disclosed that the late apostle’s influence extended beyond her career, as he provided the support and direction she needed during the early stages of her journey.
“He is my father. He was the one who raised me when I was young. The impact this man had in my life is about 90 percent, so I have to give him that befitting last respect,” she said.
Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Meanwhile, thousands of family members, friends, sympathisers and members of the Kristo Asafo community have gathered at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region to bid farewell to the late apostle, despite an interim injunction from the Accra High Court seeking to suspend the funeral arrangements.
