'Women are not obliged to tell their husbands their salary' - Abena Moet

Ghanaian media personality Abena Moet has argued that women are under no obligation to disclose their salaries or enter marriage with financial assets. S, insisting that a woman’s contribution to marriage extends beyond money.

Speaking on GHOne TV, Abena Moet said traditional expectations did not require women to bring wealth into marriage, explaining that their primary role was to build and nurture a family.

“It is today that education and civilization have brought change. Ideally, I am not expected to come into the marriage with anything. I am not supposed to go into marriage with a cent. I don’t have to bring money or property. I am supposed to come as I am,” she said.

She explained that while boys were often encouraged to pursue opportunities outside the home, girls were traditionally taught domestic responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning, and caring for a household.

According to her, a woman’s ability to bear children and create a family is a significant contribution to a marriage.

“I brought my womb, my body, and my ability to create life. That is why I brought everything to the table. So, with all my education, I have dropped it to come and have your kids, to continue your line for you. I came with everything that enables us to build a family,” she stated.

Abena Moet concluded that, based on this belief, a woman is not required to reveal her earnings to her husband.

“I am not obliged to tell you my salary,” she added.
